Flash Ah-Ah King of the Impossible

The Flash Gordon franchise is having a hell of a year so far. Last month, the SciFi Channel announced that they would be producing a series based on the popular comic strip character. My familiarization with the character stems from the 1980 film version staring Sam Jones (who?) as the titular character. I am proud to saw that I own that very film on VHS, but my attempts to acquire it on DVD have been unsuccessful due to the fact that it is out of print. What copies are available fetch a steep price on eBay. Flash Gordon is part of my 80′s Movie Trifecta of Awesomeness along with Transformers – The Movie & Big Trouble in Little China.

I’m sure that you all have been keeping up with the latest announcements from the American International Toy Fare that ended today in New York City. Oh you haven’t? Well Wizard was kind enough to photograph some of the excellent action figures coming from Big Bang Pow!

Flash Gordon 7 Ming The Merciless 7

The coolest aspect of this news is that Alex Ross himself (Kingdom Come, Justice) is the art director for this line. Anyone who is a fan of modern-era comics can understand the level of talent he brings to any project.

All I know is that Flash will look awesome next to my Jack Burton & Wang Chi from BTiLC, Snake Plissken from Escape from LA, and Corporal Hicks from Aliens.
