I’m a huge fan of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels.  I got turned onto them about four years ago and I’ve just burned through each of them at a furious pace.  When it was announced that Paramount has one the rights to make Reacher films I was very excited.  And like any fanboy, I started my list of who I’d cast as Reacher.

Reacher is described as a giant, 6’5″ and 210-250lbs.  A former United States Army Major, he’s a loner, traveling the United States with the clothes on his back and a toothbrush.  He often finds himself in situations which necessitate killing a few bad guys … with his bare hands.

Given that description I thought Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Losers, Watchmen) would have made a perfect Jack Reacher.  Well … instead it’s Tom Cruise.  The trailer is slick, very evocative of Drive.  Despite the casting, I’m very encouraged by the fact that Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, The Way of The Gun) is in the directors chair.
