I Assure You, We’re Open

By Jon, August 29, 2007 9:48 am

7 days. That’s how long it has been since I’ve last posted. I’m sure that some of you were elated in thinking that I have disappeared from the face of the blogosphere. Others might have figured that I was holed up in a seedy motel with a Tony Montana-sized mountain of coke and a couple of strippers who work the day shift at the Red Raven.

Sadly, neither is the case … I’ve just been really fucking busy; I’ve got graduate school, work, and I’m coaching cross country … at the collegiate level. Needless to say it seems as though there aren’t enough hours of the day. I assure you we are open.

I Saved A Kid From Death on The Escalator

By Jon, August 22, 2007 11:30 am

Last night, I had a true Mallrats moment at my local mall. As I was cruising up the escalator with my fiance, there was a boy with his mom and sister in front of us. As we got off the escalator the boy was still standing there while his mom and sister continued walking. Turns out his shoe laces got caught in the treads and was pulling his foot into the belt.

Being the quick thinker I am, grabbed onto the boy’s leg and yanked his shoe free. The kid was absolutely freaked, crying and probably won’t be riding the escalator anytime soon. I got a heartfelt thank you from the mom and I was on my way. If it weren’t for me, this little guy would have been competing in the Paralympics instead of Little League.

Ryan Reynolds Wants To Be Flash (So Let Him)

By Jon, August 20, 2007 8:22 pm

There is a Justice League movie in the pipeline, we just don’t know when it will come to fruition. Reports started showing up on the Interweb late this past weekend that this project could be getting off the ground as early as January 2008 for what I’d assume to be a 2009 release date. The Justice League has had many incarnations and most people, fans and non-fans alike could probably name at least two members. What has me worried is that this project has the potential to rock like a hurricane if properly executed … or suck if hampered by studio brass.

The key to this movie is going to be casting, they need actors who are comfortable in the tights and have a love for the source material. One such actor is Ryan Reynolds, who has been attached as Wally West aka Flash for about a year or so. He’s an avowed fanboy and has a passion for the role. According to MTV, there’s talking of him donning the red speed suit for the Justice League feature. During the interview he said that:

The Flash isn’t dead at all. There’s talk of it being a JLA movie, the Justice League having them all together. And then there’s other talk of doing a Flash movie with [director] Shawn Levy.

Fantastic. He’s by no means attached but I would love to see him as Flash. I’ve never been a huge DC guy, but I love the Flash. It probably has something to do with me being a runner. I can only hope that he’ll get the nod. Now we just have to start guessing as to what the lineup of the League will be … will they include Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Brandon Routh as Superman/Clark Kent? There’s a Batman film up in ‘08 and a new Big Blue up in ‘09 … will WB make these guys double dip? It’s too early to rush to judgement, but needless to say I’m very, very interested in this one.

Jessica Biel is Gonna Show The Goods

By Jon, August 20, 2007 7:54 pm

The word on the Interweb is that Jessica Biel will appear nude albeit briefly in her latest flick, Powder Blue. According to Rope of Silicon (via US Weekly), some of her scenes will be “including shots of her breasts (nipples from the front and side) and her butt (side view only)”. Apparently she’s playing one of those movie strippers that don’t get truly naked.

It goes without saying that the staff here at DDOY is big proponent of Ms. Biel (even though JT is hitting that right now). We can only hope that these scenes will lead to full frontal in coming years. Until the screencaps from Powder Blue are available enjoy the greatness of Ms. Biel’s rear.

Jessica Biel > Jessica Alba. Infinitely hittable.

Harold & Kumar 2: Teaser Trailer

By Jon, August 17, 2007 3:18 pm

Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle was a movie that I missed in theaters during its very brief stint during the summer of 2004. I had to wait until it came out on DVD to bear witness to perhaps the greatest stoner comedy since Cheech & Chong. H&KgtWC is always one of my go-tos when I need a laugh. And what makes that movie even weirder is how much my parents love the flick.

Myspacetv.com (what?!?) has the teaser trailer for Harold & Kumar 2. It appears that this movie takes place immediately after the first movie, as the boys are boarding a plane for Amsterdam in pursuit of Maria. Well as you can see in the trailer, the boys are mistaken for terrorists and hilarity ensures.

Harold & Kumar 2 will be appearing in theaters sometime in 2008.

The Dark Knight Makes An Appearance

By Jon, August 17, 2007 12:11 am

Out of nowhere some pretty interesting stills from The Dark Knight appeared. No one could figure out where they exactly came from, Merrick over at AICN figured that they may have been from the Wizard World Chicago panel. Interestingly, the pictures already got pulled down from AICN at the request of Warner Bros. Legal. They’re still all over the place, so who knows if that’s legit. I’ve beginning to doubt the cojones that Harry and Co. claim to be swinging. More and more they appear to placate to the studios (but that’s a post for another time) Over at /Film, they reported first seeing them on IESB.net. Regardless of where they came from, they are pretty friggin’ sweet.

After the jump check out the rest of the images. They could be considered slightly spoilerific, so some of you may want to sit this one out. We get a glimpse of the new Batsuit, The Joker (which is surprisingly cool), and what appears to be the new Batcave. Excited yet? I sure am.

Escape From New York … Again

By Jon, August 15, 2007 1:57 pm

The long rumored Escape From New York remake is gathering steam as it is rumored that Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman has in discussions to direct. I really don’t know how I feel about this news. I’ve seen Wiseman’s work in LfoDH and the Underworld flicks, but what most impresses me the most is that he’s married to the hotness that is Kate Beckinsale.

I have an unadulterated love for John Carpenter’s original 1981 film, and I’ve been known to enjoy the bland 1995 followup, Escape from LA. It has rightfully earned its status as a cult classic (much like many of Carpenter’s other work) Kurt Russell was Snake Plissken and always will be. However, when you have a name like Gerard Butler attached to star as the former Special Forces operator and war hero turned home grown renegade … mark me down as interested. Couple that with a rather postive script review by Merrick over at AICN and I think I’m on board for a this.

Before I rush to fanboy judgement, I’ll wait and see how this develops. Obviously there isn’t any production information available at this time, but Escape From New York Again is set for a 2009 release.

And now, enjoy some vintage YouTubeness from 1981 … the Escape From New York Theatrical Trailer

Damnit, I’m Going To Have To Watch Heroes Now

By Jon, August 14, 2007 10:02 pm

I’ve said it many time before, but NBC’s Heroes is by far one of the most over rated shows currently on the television schedule. It has its tiny moments of awesomeness, but it consistently fails to impress me. There are people that are just amazed by it … somehow they don’t realize that there are these things called comic books. Within these printed marvels (no pun intended) are fantastic stories about people with extraordinary powers and abilities, they’re called superheroes. Despite the fact that they are not bringing anything to the genre, the knuckleheads behind Heroes continues to mesmerize the general public.

TVSquad
is reporting that Nichelle Nichols, Lt. Uhura herself has snagged a recurring role in Heroes upcoming second season.

The actress joins George Takei, Sulu from the original Trek, and Dominic Keating, Malcolm Reed from Enterprise, who are already on Heroes’ pay roll (Keating was cast in a recurring role earlier this summer). To add to the Star Trek-Heroes links, Zachary Quinto, who plays Sylar, was cast as Spock in the upcoming movie.

I really don’t like Heroes, but now I’m going to have to watch it. My love of all things Star Trek cancels out my utter disdain for the slow moving, poorly characterized quasi-drama.

Got to love the irony of this screencap from the TOS ep Mirror, Mirror. Because as we are all aware, Sulu is all about the gay.

Steely McBeam, WTF?!?

By Jon, August 10, 2007 10:50 am

As a lifelong Steelers fan, today I hang my head in shame. The mascot that was unveiled several months ago in honor of the Steelers 75th Anniversary now has a name … Steely McBeam. No I’m not making that up. Why do we now have a mascot with a name that belongs in porn? How could the front office sit around a table and think that was a great idea. The same folks who approved this attrociuos name must be the same ones who greenlit Daddy Day Camp (currently holding a 2% freshness rating at Rotten Tomatoes)

This is absolute horse shit. We haven’t had a mascot for decades but poof … we have one all of a sudden and he’s gayer than San Diego Chicken. The Steeler Nation is in a state of mourning, specifically for an organization that had been so unique in remaining true to the elements of the game and not the making that extra buck. A sad day indeed.
