Optimus Prime Will Have a Trailer In Transformers 3

By Jon, July 10, 2010 10:26 pm

Despite my enormous love for the Transformers franchise, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen left a bad taste in my mouth. It was a product of the writer’s strike and seemed to be a couple of big action sequences strung together with a hackneyed storyline.

Did I still buy some of the toys? Of course I did, because that’s what fanboys like me do … we bitch about the movie but still go out and purchase the merchandise.

While I was well aware that production had begun for Transformers 3, and I was doing my best to stay spoiler free once again. However, when I stopped by TFW2005 (my Transformers fansite of choice), I had found that board member 245am was able to snap pictures on set in Chicago … of Optimus Prime with his motherfucking trailer!

tf3_op_trailer

And not only did 245am uncover this significant spoiler, but also took some pictures of some of the other Autobots in addition to what appeared to be NASCAR racers armed to the teeth. Fan speculation has that they could be Stunticons … which could lead to another combiner in Menasor. From 245am’s set report:

Saw a chase scene being filmed with several Autobots racing behind what looked like demolition derby cars… closed top with plastic net windows over the door windows, scrapped together bodies, etc. Mostly black with some color paint. My first thought was they were filming crew vehicles, and they might have been, but they also had sponsor decals (Gillette I saw for sure) and big racing numbers (again, 13 I saw for sure) and figured they wouldn’t put those on cars that weren’t being filmed. My first thought when I saw them: Stunticons, but that’s total conjecture.

Michael Bay may have gotten me excited about the next Transformers flick … but we all know better than to trust him. Serious Bay, do NOT fuck this up.

Optimus Does The Top Ten, Letterman FTW

By Jon, July 8, 2009 9:28 am

Before I lapse into a coma after coming off of night work, here’s the video of Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) reading the “Top Ten Things That Sound Cool When Spoken By A Giant Robot” on the Late Show with David Letterman.

After viewing this clip, I firmly believe that Cullen should do the voice-over work for everything. Screw James Earl Jones, Dennis Hasbert, and Keifer Sutherland, I will sheepishly purchase anything that Optimus is hawkin’. Suddenly I have the urge to purchase Jurgens and watch Sex in the City.

My Sketchbook: Dave Perillo’s Optimus Prime

By Jon, June 29, 2009 3:38 am

About three years ago when I first started attending cons I became aware of a local group of artists in the Philadelphia area that I absolutely love, with one such talent being Dave Perillo. He’s an awesome guy with a great style that has a knack for picking on those most minute idiosyncrasies of the characters he draws.

So this year at Wizard World Philly I asked Dace to start off my new sketchbook with his take on the greatest of all Autobots, Optimus Prime. Even though he posted it already over on his blog, I figured that since I’m the owner of said sketch I might as well do the same here.

You can check out more of Dave’s work on his blog Montygog’s Art-O-Rama, or even purchase some of his from his online store. Tell him Jon sent ya.

Optimus Prime Versus Bonecrusher

By Jon, April 2, 2007 5:27 pm

Yahoo has some pretty sweet production stills from Transformers, of the three that were released this one is arguably my favorite of the lot.

This is the first true action shot of any of the Transformers and I am thoroughly impressed. Last week we got a glimpse of the new one-sheets … and now this. Wow. Again the TalkBackers at AICN are incensed and ready to burn His Bayness in effigy. I can care less what they have to say … I’m pumped.

Click for a much larger & detailed version:

Optimus Prime Versus Bonecrusher - Click for Larger

The other two stills feature Bonecrusher going medieval on a bus and the uber-badass Barricade attacking that kid from Even Stevens. Roughly 93 days to go and I can hardly contain my fanboy excitement.

Optimus Prime Has A Big Gun

By Jon, December 4, 2006 9:30 pm

Brand spanking new CGI renderings of Optimus Prime, Bumble Bee, and Megatron from Transformers: The Movie have been leaked onto the Interwebs.

Optimus Prime is Sheer Awesomeness

All due credit goes to Jalopnik and TFW2005. I am a big deal around here, but not big enough for His Bayness to personally bestow these images to me.

All of the fanboy haters on the Interweb are making claims like, “ZOMG Micheal Bay is raping my childhood because Optimus has flames”. Get over it already … shit, the cartoon was about GIANT ROBOTS THAT TURNED INTO CARS, TAPE DECKS, AND PLANES. This movie is going to slay in theaters, I alone will see this movie at least 3 times opening weekend.

Optimus looks awesome, he has a big gun, and Peter Cullen will voice him. I am sold.

Peter Cullen, A God Among Mortals

By Jon, November 14, 2006 1:18 am

It has come up before here on DDoY that I am a huge Transformers fan. There are few things in life that I appreciate more than Transformers: The Movie. Optimus Prime was and still is the coolest thing ever. Right now I am gazing fondly at my Masterpiece 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime and waiting for July 4th, 2007 when Transformers debuts in theaters. While plodding through the inter-web, I came across an interview with Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime in the cartoon AND the live-action movie.

For a time it appeared, much to the fanboys’ dismay, that Cullen would be replaced in favor of Hollywood-types and for a time George Clooney was rumored to be attached as Prime. It was at that point, I joined in with the inter-geeks and sent angry emails to Micheal Bay & Dreamworks telling them that they were raping our collective childhoods.

Without permission from NewsOK.com – The Oklahoman of course …. here you guys go

Cullen was called in to audition for Michael Bay at his offices in Santa Monica, Calif.

He was asked to read a scene with Optimus Prime and Ironhide, a gutsy Autobot who was a close friend of Prime’s, also played by Cullen in the original series.

“The script assistant was there, and she started reading for Ironside,” Cullen said.

“I said, ‘Excuse me, dear, do you mind if I read it?’ Because I actually played this character.’”

Cullen completed the read-through reading for both characters.

Cullen received a callback. This time, Cullen was called to act out a more personal, one-on-one scene.

“The reason for that was, they wanted to find out if I in fact could act,” he said.

“Optimus steps out of his normal frame, and becomes … a little more human.”

Shortly later, Cullen heard from his agent that he was again cast as Optimus Prime.

“And I said, ‘Oh, fantastic,’ and that’s when I started to get involved,” he said. “It started getting exciting, and it’s remained that way ever since.”

How friggin’ badass would it have been to sit in that room and watch Cullen read both Optimus & Ironhide’s lines. I actually peed my pants when I heard the news that Cullen was going to be Prime again. I was so excited, I almost sharted.

And now, for one of my favorite lines from TF:TM ….

“Everytime I look into a monitor my circuits sizzle. When are we going to bust some Decepti-chops?”

BEST MOVIE EVAR

If you haven’t already make sure you pick up TF:TM 20th Anniversary Edition, and bask in the greatness that are the Transformers.

My Favorite Fictional Characters Of All Time

By Jon, October 17, 2006 12:04 am

Because I had a 3 day weekend and time on my hands I figured I would compile a list of my heroes, fictional or otherwise:

Dalton – from Road House
Dalton ripping some dude's throat out
I first saw Road House when I was in 5th or 6th grade, and it changed my life. Immediately thereafter, I wanted to do whatever it took to become a Cooler. I mean, the pay seemed good … Dalton had a Benz, lived in a barn, and banged hot doctors. Who wouldn’t want that life? It took me about 15 minutes for me to realize that Dalton was nothing more than a bouncer, albeit one with a sweet feathered hair cut. But one thing that made Dalton a total badass was the fact that he ripped out a dude’s throat.
If you do not know the awesomeness that is Road House, you are not a man.

Brock Samson – from The Venture Brothers
Brock Samson Doesn't Fuck Around
If you haven’t seen The Venture Brothers yet, you don’t know what you are missing. Simply, it’s the real world version of “The Adventures of Jonny Quest”. Brock Samson makes Race Bannon look like a girl scout. Brock loves his ‘69 Dodge Charger, Led Zepplin, and unfiltered cigarettes. He has a license to kill, and makes good use of it. Brock’s sole focus is protecting the Venture Family from the likes of The Monarch, Phantom Limb, and Baron Underbeit.

Jack Burton – from Big Trouble In Little China
Jack Burton, All That Is Man
BTiLC is my second favorite movie of all time, and for damn good reason. Jack Burton is what every regular guy thinks he is, a total badass when things get unreasonable. If you watch the movie very closely, you’ll notice that he continually gets his ass kicked and is NEVER actively involved in any of the elaborate battle sequences. He means well, in his own John Wayne demeanor.

Optimus Prime – from Transformers
Optimus Prime, Leader of the Autobots
Transformers: The Movie is my favorite movie of all time. When I saw it in theaters when I was kid, I remember the shock of watching my hero Optimus Prime die (He eventually did return in the TV series a year later). Regardless, Optimus Prime always did what was right and had the best vehicle mode of all the Transformers. My love of all things Autobot has carried on to adulthood with my various action figures, posters, and DVDs.
