I’m actually pretty excited for the upcoming The A-Team feature film from Joe Carnahan (Smoking Aces, NARC) . While purists may argue that it is a bastardization of a classic television show, I would raise the point that the show was pretty much shit and written like a mad-lib. I cannot wait to see Liam Neeson ham it up as Hannibal and the crazy that is Sharlto Copley after his turn in District 9. The movie may not be high-brow, but it looks like it will be stupid fun.
Brock’s Illegitimate Son, 21’s Larp Crew, Sgt. Hatred in bed with Billy Quizboy, Brock, and the sexy yet husky voiced Dr. Mrs. Monarch …. all can be seen in Venture Brothers Season 4.
Using my totally rad photoshop skills I put together this side-to-side comparison of ScarJo and the only woman that Brock Samson has ever loved … Molotov Cocktease.
I can’t be the only one who thinks should could fill out the role in the eventual live-action Venture Bros. movie … right?
Anyway, ScarJo looks amazing in that spandex suit and is just another reason why Iron Man 2 will allow Marvel Execs to swim in a pool of money Scrooge McDuck style.
I’m not sure how many of you out there have been watching the new season of The Venture Brothers, but it has been spectacularly snarky (more so than before
past week’s episode featuring this awesome GI Joe send up. Hang on for the interaction between the Swedish Murder Machine that is Brock Sampson and “Shore Leave”.
The Venture Brothers airs Sunday nights at 11:30pm on Cartoon Network during the infamous Adult Swim block
That’s right folks, the greatest chunk of programming on Adult Swim, Venture Brothers, returns tonight for it’s third season. The last we left Dr. Venture, Dean, Hank & the murderous Brock Sampson they had defeated the forces of the Phantom Limb with the help of David Bowie (who just so happens to be a shape-shifting leader of the Guild of Calamitous Intent) at the Showdown at Cremation Creek.
I’ll admit, this show isn’t for everyone, and a lot of people I’ve recommended it to just don’t get it. Trust me though, give it a chance and you’ll quickly see why it’s one of the best shows on television despite the fact that it’s only in 2-D.
I was adamant about making it to New York Comic Con this year, but plans changed and I was relegated to various blogs to gather information on the panels & product that went on display. One of the panels I really wanted to see was the Venture Brothers Panel with series creators Jackson Publick & Doc Hammer.
For those who are unaware of the Venture Brothers, it is by far the best slice of heaven on Cartoon Network’s adult swim programming block. I have sung the show’s praises on previously, so I’m not going to get into that again. So last weekend, at the panel at NYCCC, Publick & Hammer debuted the first footage for Season 3 (which has been too long in the making). Fans will absolutely shit a brick when it comes to these clips … and everyone else will just scratch their heads.
The GI JOE montage at the tail end of the clip was fraking awesome. Venture Brothers Season 3 will debut on June 1, 2008 … maybe earlier.
The Venture Bros. is by far my favorite show on Adult Swim. Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer have created a show that is by far too brilliant for its own good. The titular (and somewhat dim-witted) characters, Hank & Dean Venture are the sons (err … clones) of famed super-scientist Dr. Thaddeus Venture. Joined by uber-bodyguard Brock Samson (whom I cited earlier as one of my favorite fictional characters of all time), they find themselves at the mercy of a sordid rogues gallery, most notable featuring The Monarch … a guy who dresses as a butterfly and has a giant flying cocoon as a base.
Venture Bros. is just wrong on so many levels … but it works. In Season Two we find out that Dr. Venture’s “sons” are actually clones from his nail clippings, and that Hank & Dean have been cloned 14 times. We also saw The Monarch broke out of prison with the help of a homosexual ape. The sexual dynamo that is Dr. Girlfriend left Phantom Limb to return to The Monarch, and in response the Phantom Limb launched a full scale attack on The Monarch without the consent of the Guild of Calamatous Intent. Whew ….
Oh and we had a visit from the Galactic Inquistor.
Venture Bros. IMHO is the best animated program on TV right now. It’s by far more intelligent than anything Seth McFarlane and his Manatees are pumping out … and the Simpsons for that matter. This show is truly beyond description, as it does not fall into any pre-existing archetypes. Who else has David Bowie and Iggy Pop squaring off in a duel that rivals Anakin & Obi Wan during the season finale? EXACTLY. Do yourself a favor and head over to your favorite consumer electronics store or add both seasons to your Netflix queue.
I’ve been sick for the past couple of days, and by no means has it been glamorous. Lots of congestion, phlegm, and a slight fever overnight. I took my first sick day from work in about 2 years today, and it’s been a fun one. I have been able to catch up on some DVD watching though.
