I Went To The #ForceFriday Midnight Madness Event So You Didn’t Have To

file-sep-30-10-13-28-amThe official retail kick off for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story AKA Force Friday was officially underway at 12:01AM on September 30th, 2016. And because I was up anyway, I decided to take part in the midnight launch at my local Toys ‘R Us. I arrived at 11:55PM to find myself the 11th person person in line, at which time staff were handing out passes for their exclusive 6″ Black Series Imperial Hovertank Pilot.

There were also giveaways (provided you gave Geoffrey a high five) which consisted of a Rogue One Funko T-Shirt and a poster.  At the stroke of midnight they let us into the store and back to the Star Wars area which had been restocked with approximately 3 cases of Black Series figures (the Death Troopers and K2-SO were the first to disappear) and a ton of 3.75″ basic figures (5 POA), vehicles, role-play items and LEGO sets.

I was in the store for maybe 25 minutes, during which time maybe a grand total of 30 people came in (and even one female!).  The event was low key and very orderly and no one got stabbed, molested or harassed.  My haul was modest along with the giveaways, as I picked up a 6″ Black Series K2-SO and a 3.75″ Sabine Wren from Star Wars Rebels.

Not interested in dealing with the teeming, sweaty masses?  Head over to our friends Entertainment Earth who have a huge Rogue One shop set up with everything you could possibly desire.

Toy Hunting: Star Wars Black “Peg Warmers” Round Two

While on a recent Toy Hunt I found myself somewhat hopeful that I may come across a rogue Boba Fett or even a Sand Trooper or two based on recent Internet sightings.  Previously the only figures I have ever seen at retail are Greedo and Slave Princess Leia (arguably two of the most unpopular in the series so far).

Imagine my surprise when I found an X-Wing Pilot Luke Skywalker and a bunch of Slave Princess Leia figures clogging the pegs.

At least it’s something different for a change right?  I refuse to pay secondary market prices for the 2-3 figures that I want, so I guess lady luck will have to be on my side during one of these toy hunts.

If you find yourself luckless when it comes to grabbing up Star Wars Black at retail feel free to buy them through my affiliate links for Entertainment Earth or Amazon!

Funko’s ReAction Line Is A Blast of Limited Articulation Nostalgia

Entertainment Earth unveiled the first images of Funko & Super7’s ReAction retro style action figures and I cannot underscore how happy I am that this line exists. I was a little hesitant when Funko announced that they had obtained the rights to produce figures based on some iconic genre properties like Escape from New York, Serenity, Terminator, Predator, Pulp Fiction, and Back to the Future.

How could the company whose focus to this point has been unarticulated vinyl collectibles navigate the treacherous waters of a line aimed squarely at the adult collector?  Well, Funko came out swinging today with first looks at some prototypes that had many denizens of the Interwebs hitting the pre-order button.

I’ve mirrored images of my favorites below so far, with Snake Plissken from Escape from New York and the T-800 Endoskeleton from Terminator tied for first place.

Entertainment Earth At five points articulation, Funko is clearly aiming for that nostalgia shaped hole in your heart.  I’m not the most business savvy individual, but I’m thinking they are going to sell a bajillion of these action figures.  Now here’s my question I pose to you, my loyal readers … would you like to see in-scale vehicles to this line?  If this line takes off and is a success we could see an announcement in that regard in the near future.

I am genuinely excited for the future of this line and we haven’t even seen what they have planned for some of the other licensed properties like The Goonies, Universal Monsters, Firefly, and Back to The Future.  If

Pre-orders are live on Entertainment Earth and if you are interested in purchasing them please do so through our affiliate link!

An Adorable Mr. Potato Head Grimlock Is The Only Autobot You Need

There was a time where I bought everything Transformers.  Beginning in 2007 with the release of the live action film, I picked up nearly everything Autobot for a three year period.  While I have always preferred the G1-aesthetic I managed to grab up everything possible, even the weirder products like the Optimash Prime Mr. Potato Head.

Late yesterday TFW2005 posted images of the latest offerings in Transformers/Mr. Potato Head mashups (see what I did there?) which come to us via a Brazilian toy site (which appears to be down) and the absolute standout is this G1-inspired Grimlock.  Or is it Grimtator? Grimspud?

Seriously, I cannot even begin to articulate how truly awesome this hunk of plastic is. Fortunately my kids really, really like Mr. Potato Head and I can easily justify this expenditure once this his retail.

Toy Hunting: Star Wars Black “Peg Warmers” Edition

Late last month Phillip Reed of Battlegrip made a discovery that two Star Wars Black figures, Princess Leia (Slave Outfit) and Greedo were choking the shelves in the toy aisles in his part of the country.  During a brief toy hunt this weekend I discovered the very same scenario at my local Toys R Us.

Photo Jan 11, 6 28 35 PMNot only were Greedo and Princess Leia clogged four deep on their rightful place in the aisle, but there was a separate end cap with an additional eight figures.  There are two other characters in this wave, Han Solo and Boba Fett.  I’ve never seen a Boba Fett in person but have seen Han Solo on a handful of occasions.  I would think that when the character selection for this wave was announced, Greedo would clearly be the least favorite and more apt to clog the shelves.  But Princess Leia in her metal bikini? I would have figured that mouth breathing neck beards would have been all over this one. But anyway, I digress …

Photo Jan 11, 6 28 41 PMWhile I may not be the biggest Star Wars collector or critic, both Phil Reed and Poe Ghostal have been doing a great job chronicling the distribution and character selection in the Star Wars Black series;   I would definitely steer you all in their direction for the latest and greatest in all things Star Wars.

Disease And Danger At DDOY HQ

It was a rough week at DDOY HQ, with every family member coming down with what felt like Andorian Shingles; fortunately none of us required hospitalization like my robot friend Vincent (glad to hear your gears are all in the right place big guy).  That being said, I’ll be resuming a normal posting schedule from here on out.

The Ultimate 2013 LEGO Holiday Gift Guide

Let’s be honest, there really is no greater gift to than the gift of LEGO.  Perennially best sellers, LEGO construction sets are beloved the world over by all ages (especially one particular blogger … ahem)  With approximately 20 billion LEGO elements produced every year we can all agree ….  There. Is. No. Stopping. LEGO. Evar.

Because every once in a while you need some help with your gift shopping, I went ahead and picked out some of my favorite LEGO related items from 2013.  Hopefully there is something on this list for the LEGO maniac in your life.

For the Adult Fan of LEGO … LEGO Adventure Book, Vol 2

$14.97 @ Amazon (Qualifies for Free Shipping)

No Starch Press has been putting out fantastic books about LEGO for quite some time.  One of their more recent releases by Megan H. Rothrock, a former designer with the LEGO Group, who channels the LEGO Idea Books of old as this latest volume features 40 step-by-step breaks downs and 100 example models

The LEGO Adventure Book, Vol 2 focuses on some  LEGO fan favorites: spaceships, pirates, and dragons and demonstrates some advanced building techniques and ingenious ways that LEGO elements can be connected.

For The Classic LEGO Fan … LEGO Castle – King’s Castle (70404)

$99.99 @ Entertainment Earth + Free Shipping

In 2013 LEGO returned to it’s Classic Castle roots when they revamped the Castle theme.  King’s Castle is reminiscent of one the all time great sets King’s Castle (6080) from 1984.

70404 King's Castle

The modern version comes in at 996 pieces with 7 minifigures, a battering ram, and a ton of awesome play features.  King’s Castle is modular in design so it  can be combined with The Gatehouse Raid (70402).

For The Gamer in Your Life … LEGO Marvel Superheroes

$49.99 + Free Shipping @ Amazon

At this point it is futile to go on at length about the stellar job Telltale Games has done translating the LEGO for

m to the video game format.  Their latest licensed digital adventure is available on every gaming system and has been garnering really solid reviews since its release on October.

Unfortunately it’s a little too late to get the Wal-Mart per-order exclusive Iron Man 3 Iron Patriot Polybag, but that won’t stop you from having hours of brick building, LEGO Galactus smashing fun!

For The Star Wars Fan … LEGO Star Wars – Millenium Falcon (7965)

$139.99 @ Entertainment Earth + Free Shipping

Fun fact, earlier this year my 23 year old brother called me to ask if I could rebuild his Millenium Falcon for him.  Apparently he got 2/3 of the way through the build as miscalculated somewhere along the line, causing the whole ship to be misaligned.  Being the dutiful big brother I am I painstakingly disassembled and sorted all of the pieces to start back at step one.

Millenium Falcon 7965

While I’ve never been a tremendous fan of the Star Wars LEGO sets, I must say that the Millenium Falcon has to be one of the most enjoyable builds I have had in quite a while.  It’s odd geometry  is well suited to the LEGO medium and the end result is a ship that is very sturdy and swooshable.  Track this most excellent LEGO set down for the Star Wars fan in your life.

For Anyone … LEGO CUUSO – The Delorean Time Machine (21103)

$29.97 @ Amazon (Qualifies for Free Shipping)

And finally, arguably my favorite LEGO set of 2013 is a tremendous accomplishment as it started as a fan project on the LEGO CUUSO, where fans around the world can submit their designs for consideration to be turned into an actual set.

Delorean 22103

Released in August, the Delorean Time Machine features Marty McFly and Doc Brown minifigures and enough pieces to configure the Delorean into your favorite version from the Back to the Future trilogy (mine is definitely the hover mode variation from BTTF 2).

Affiliate Link: Halloween Costume Sale at Entertainment Earth

With little over a month to go until Halloween, careful thought and planning needs to go into your costume selection. Luckily the folks at Entertainment Earth were thinking of you so they launched a “Buy One Get The Second for 30% Off” sale for all in-stock costumes and accessories.

Entertainment Earth

Of course you can stock up on your Avengers, Harry Potter, and Batman related costume needs. However, I ran across The Inflatable Unicorn Horn which I’m assuming exists only for the most dedicated Bronies.
