For the last couple of months, I’ve been hearing about this upcoming science fiction thriller Splice starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley. It screened at a couple of festivals, I think Sundance was one of them. Over at io9 I finally caught a full trailer for it, and it has definitely piqued my interest.
As the norm these days, this trailer exposes to much of the plot. I think I have it figured out:
- Guy and Gal scientist do something they aren’t supposed to
- Gal makes Guy keep their genetic bastard a secret
- The creature turns out to be oddly hot, Guy has sex with it
- Gal tries to kill the new creature, fails and sets it off into a murderous rage
- Everyone dies at the end, except creature who was impregnated by the Guy … propogating an entirely new species.
If I have learned anything from the various creationist tales in science fiction and horror, is that if the creature is an oddly attractive female … some guy will try and have sex with it. Splice is giving me an X-Files vibe, and I keep on waiting for Mulder to show up at the end of the trailer.
Splice will finds its way to theaters on June 4th.
